The care and keeping of you 2: the body book for older girls

This precious companion from The Care & Keeping of You has received his new update! The book of feelings will help you understand your emotions and deal with them in a positive way. You will receive advice on how to express your feelings and maintain control, as well as receive sensitive advice on managing fear, anxiety, jealousy and pain. Find out how to stay in the driver's seat of your emotions!

I bought it for my 6 year old daughter who had problems with friends at school. He is a little advanced for his age, but we read it together and then discuss the different feelings with which he identifies himself. Some of the more complex feelings she still doesn't identify with, but it's nice to prepare her when she starts having more complex feelings, to let her know it's okay. We have always had very open discussions about emotions, but this has provided us with a framework for discussion and has been really useful. We read a page or section, and then ask her if she ever felt that way and then to describe a scenario in which she felt that feeling. Sometimes I give an example of when I felt that feeling of opening the conversation. The strategy helped my daughter open up and tell me a lot of things that she might not have been able to explain before, or that could have emerged in a mixture of words. We only read a few pages at a time and sometimes go back to a previous section if it matches what happened during the day. I think it's a great tool and best used to facilitate conversation about difficult emotions.
